DENVER (Nov. 9, 2011) – Ken Fellman of Denver-based law-firm Kissinger & Fellman P.C. has been selected to serve on a 15-member advisory committee to the Federal Communications Commission, designed to promote awareness of telecommunications issues for which local, state, and Native American Tribal governments share responsibility with the FCC.
Fellman’s two-year term on the Intergovernmental Advisory Committee will allow him to continue the work he has done on telecommunications issues for organizations such as the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors, and for the local Greater Metro Telecommunications Consortium. He is immediate past president of NATOA and general counsel for the GMTC, which is comprised of 34 communities in Colorado, mostly in the Denver area.
Other members of the IAC include New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, State Representative Thomas Sloane of District 45 in Kansas, State Representative Chris Perone of District 137 in Connecticut and Cherie Moomaw, Colville Business Council Member, Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation in Washington. The composition of the committee was announced by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski. Some of the matters that the IAC will address include cable and local franchising, public rights-of-way, facilities siting, universal service, broadband access and public safety communications.
“I am grateful to Chairman Genachowski and the Commission for including me on the IAC,” Fellman said, “and I look forward to helping the IAC become an effective vehicle for addressing local, state and tribal communications issues with our federal partners.”
In April the FCC began accepting nominations to the reauthorized IAC. The FCC is still seeking confirmation of a 15th member, and that seat is designated for occupancy by a state governor or lieutenant governor.
“NATOA congratulates Ken on his appointment to the IAC,” NATOA President Joanne Hovis said in a recent press release. “Local governments will be well-represented by his dedication to and advocacy of local government telecommunications issues.”
